Class of 2025
Majors in Computer Science and Public Policy Studies; Certificates in Digital Intelligence and Innovation & Entrepreneurship
My name is Sabina Taneja, and I am a junior majoring in Computer Science and Public Policy with additional certificates in Digital Intelligence and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. I hope to one day pursue a career as a technology consultant, utilizing innovative solutions to improve current business models. I am actively involved in various organizations on Duke's campus, including a new Bollywood-Hip Hop dance team that I recently founded on campus called Duke Ishq. In addition to Ishq, I am involved in DTech, Duke BOW, Duke Applied Machine Learning, Maxwell House, and Duke Rhydhun. Outside of academics, my biggest hobbies are dancing, photography, exercising, and art.
Favorite Class: I have two favorite classes at Duke thus far- CS 101 and PubPol 270S. I really enjoyed CS 101 because it opened my eyes to a new way of thinking. The course allowed me to leverage my creativity and problem-solving skills to tackle new types of problems that I had not seen before (as someone with no prior coding experience). I really enjoyed the course's projects and APTs as they consistently had my brain thinking, and I remember feeling so accomplished once my code ran smoothly. It is an amazing introduction to CS and a well-run course. Meanwhile, PubPol 270S was a great course because it gave students the unique opportunity to work directly with nonprofits in Durham. The ability to work alongside leaders at a local non-profit helped me build upon not only my asset-based thinking principles, but also my communication, project management, and problem-solving skills. I had the opportunity to create a new program for the nonprofit I worked with, which was an extremely enriching experience. The course also teaches you about Durham's history, which is valuable as a current-resident of Durham.
