Join students in Professor Owen Astrachan's CS 342 class for a discussion with Duke Computer Science alumnus Genesis Bonds about her career and expertise.
Hailing from South Jamaica Queens, New York, Genesis Bonds is a lover of all things food, tech, and Black culture. She is a Duke graduate and senior Software Engineer, currently at Bloomberg. Her previous work ranges from engineering at Instagram Music, to backend engineering at Facebook’s Civic Integrity Team, to training hundreds of students as a Full Stack Web Development Trainer at a coding bootcamp. When she finds the time, she is currently using her experience to write an e-book for front end web dev. Be sure to check it out!.
Outside of technical passions, Genesis loves everything about food. Cooking classes, dinner parties, food tours - she’s your girl. She’s also an anime fan (and yes, has watched every episode of One Piece).
Genesis learned the value of transparency and vulnerability in her experiences. She enjoys sharing the highs and the lows of her journey because she believes it’s important to know that mistakes aren’t what matters - it’s how you recover and improve afterwards.
